C Train in Fog at Midnight

I spent several hours wandering around in a dense fog (both literally and figuratively). Thick waves of vision choking cloud washed over everything. The light giving shape to only the streetlights. What was close enough to be illuminated in a weak and distorted way seemed to be less inspiring than the mental rut that I was in myself.

Then I heard a beautiful pure and unmistakable sound and a rumbling in the distance. I positioned my tripod and already had the exposure dialed in at 8 seconds at F8. I opened the shutter.

The rumbling drowned out all other thought completely for those eight seconds. After the last car passed it left a vacuum and a quiet emptiness in its wake. Very fitting of the night.
